The humanitarian organization he founded, EMERGENCY, builds and maintains hospitals clinics worldwide. In July 2006, the renowned photojournalist Renee Rosensteel documented the heroic work of the EMERGENCY staff in Afghanistan, the oldest and largest of the organization's missions.
