HEALING THROUGH ART
PLEASE FORWARD TO FRIENDS & FAMILY
We are pleased to announce the coming to town of David & Layla (www.DavidandLayla.com), a romantic comedy inspired by a true love story between a Jewish New Yorker and a beautiful Iraqi Kurdish refugee. In the backdrop are the serious problems faced by the Kurdish people and other minority groups in the Middle East as well as the healing, through reciprocal respect and understanding, of perceived tensions between Muslims and Jews. Written, produced and directed by Iraqi Kurdish exile Jay Jonroy.
The message is about peace and the beauty and laughter that come from embracing diversity, a message that complements Emergency's work in Iraq and all over the world.
The movie's opening night in Pittsburgh is October 12. at the REGENT SQUARE Theater, Pittsburgh, PA 1035 Braddock Avenue

Emergency has been operating in Iraqi Kurdistan since March 1995. It opened two surgical centers for war victims and many other health activities in the northern region of the country where the Kurdish people live, Sulaimaniya (1995) and Erbil (1998). Both have a 100-bed capacity, a spinal unit and a pediatric burn unit. Emergency turned these facilities to the local Health authorities in 2005.
Emergency also built and still runs the Center for Rehabilitation, Prostheses and Social Reintegration of landmines victims in Sulaimaniya, About 2,800 land mine amputees have received prostheses and rehabilitation since its opening in 1998.
